Older women rock Art project by Leah Thorn ‘Older Women Rock!’ is an art project by Leah Thorn, a British spoken word poet. The project followed Thorn’s 2015 Leverhulme Trust artist residency in the Kent Academic Primary Care Unit at the University of Kent and in the England Centre for Practice Development at Canterbury Christ Church University. The residency enabled her to run poetry workshops, have conversations with a wide range of women in their late 50s and 60s and to write poetry about the cross-over of age oppression and sexism. After the residency, Thorn collaborated with sculptor Nicholette Goff, knitting artist Deborah Nash, fashion stylist Claire Angel, textile artist Trish Bishop and members of the Profanity Embroidery Group, which resulted in a collection of clothes and accessoires on which her poetry had been embroidered or printed.
