Abolish Age: maak een einde aan leeftijd!

studiumgent.be/simone-van-saarloos/

Simon(e) van Saarloos in conversation with Nika Looman

Unruly older women: film evening in Gent

www.kaskcinema.be/kaskcinema/vertoning/advanced_style_2014

A new film evening dedicated to unruly older women! This time with a surprise from special guests wzc De Liberteyt

Film + special guests: ageing, gender and resistance
Programme:
19:00: welcome at KASK Foyer
20:00: special guests (WZC De Liberteyt)
20:30: film ‘Advanced Style’
Welcome to the parade of unruly older women: they are expected not to dress too sexy, to wear tight clothes or flashy colors. In this way, women who are ageing become almost literally invisible in the media and in society. In fashion shows and advertisements we mainly see models who meet a youthful ideal of beauty. What if we deviate from that path and use fashion and style to question the status quo? The documentary Advanced Style tells the story of seven older women in New York who completely ignore the strict norms about aging, beauty and clothing. With their bold prints, second-hand creations and feathered dresses, they dismantle the house that the fashion industry built for them and give new meanings to ageing, bodies, sexuality and gender. Be inspired by their rebellious designs! The evening is organised by the Later-in-Life Intimacies (LiLI) research team in collaboration with KASK cinema.

Learning from the wise: Pleasure, aging and sex work

www.sophia.be/2022/09/06/the-price-of-pleasure/

An intimate conversation with two older sex workers, in the context of a day festival dedicated to destigmatizing sex work.

The workshop is conceived as a social experiment of reversal. In a youth-obsessed society that stigmatises sex work, older sex workers’s knowledge and experience is undervalued. What happens when we listen to sex workers as wise elders? What does one learn about society, pleasure and sexuality through this form of labour?
Sitting in an intimate circle, we will listen to the stories of two experienced sex workers who carried on working through past their 50’s. You will have the chance to ask questions (anonymously or openly) and participate in the discussion. This space is created to celebrate and center the experiences of older women. Everyone is welcome to participate, but we especially encourage 50+ women to join!

Literary ageing buffet | Other Women’s Flowers x LiLI

konvooifestival.be/

An evening of literature, feminism and food with a focus on ageing and pleasure. The event is part of the arts festival Konvooi.

Much attention is paid to the work of young artists, but less to older artists and writers. At this literary buffet, we will sit together and read texts written by women in later life. The readings will be accompanied by a tasting of foods and drinks which become tasty, sparkling or simply different over time. You are welcome to bring a text you would like to share or just drop in, and we will take care of the rest. This event is especially directed to 50+ women. Reserve a place!
Other women’s flowers is a project dedicated to highlighting the work of women writers in informal, playful and festive ways. Its core element are literary evenings where we discuss texts we like with each other while sharing a meal. For this edition in Konvooi, Other women’s flowers will collaborate with the research group LiLI to bring attention to older women writers and readers, and the pleasures of reading, writing and coming together to discuss it all.

LiLI Zine/collage workshop on queer ageing

www.eventbrite.be/e/clit-plak-tickets-358734222717
